What your blush says about you (even if you don't want to know)
Alexandra Wagner
Let's be honest... On Valentine's Day, everything feels a little more obvious. There are people (us included) who realize they're developing feelings for someone only after having thought about it eight times, discussed it with all their friends, and written (and deleted) it a thousand times in notes... And even then, it's still not clear. And then there's your blush, which picks up on things much faster than you do.
And it's normal; the body always reacts before the brain. So no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to hide it.
And as you may have already noticed, there are many types of blush for every emotion and moment. Because you don't blush the same way when you're embarrassed as when you feel happiness, anger, or pleasure. In addition, blush can transform several times from one moment to another, and the reality is that there are patterns that tend to repeat. And we're going to tell you our top 3.
1. The Indiscreet
We love this type of blush. It's quick, obvious, and quite scandalous. The most physical of all, it certainly doesn't stay in the background. And the funniest thing is that no matter what you do, you can't control it. It shows a looooot.
It's the blush of embarrassment and shyness, but also of attraction. The one when your crush makes a cheeky comment and suddenly your whole face burns.
It's one of our favorites to recreate because it gives a healthy and active look, like you've just exercised. How to recreate it? Easy.
This blush is usually a fiery red, like The No-Rules Stick Mini 244. For this look, apply it a little lower than usual, blend outwards, and cross lightly over the nose. No surgical precision needed: use your fingers if necessary.
And you're left with the mythical boyfriend blush, originally inspired by Prince Harry's post-workout cheeks. If it looks like you've been out in the fresh air (even if you've been indoors all day), you've done it right.
2. The Magnetic
This blush doesn't burst in with fireworks, but it doesn't hide either. We love this one because it's the blush you get when you're comfortable and at peace: neither excited nor nervous.
And it's true what they say: when you feel good inside, you'll look good outside. And, curiously, the less you force it, the better it looks.
Imagine you've been talking to your crush for a while and not once have you thought: "Oh, am I nodding too much?" You don't need to, because your magnetism is enough on its own. That's the level of chill we aspire to. And if not, you can always fake it until you make it with makeup.
How to recreate it:
This look aims to be a bit more sculpted and natural, like an effortlessly good complexion. Use a rosy nude shade like The No-Rules Stick Mini 503 and apply it high on the cheekbone, almost where you would start a soft contour.
Blend upwards and outwards, without dragging the color down too much. The key here is not intensity, but placement: a little product, well-worked.
3. The Butterflies
For when you want to stop being emotionally responsible, even if it's just for a while. This blush appears when you let your guard down and allow yourself to get excited.
It's the blush you get when you make up a whole story with very little data, but a lot of imagination: situations, conversations, future outfits that, objectively, might not even exist... but hey, the fantasy is incredible.
This blush is applied more centrally and closer to the emotion. Apply a soft pink shade like The No-Rules Stick Mini 362 directly to the apples of your cheeks, keeping the color high and well-blended.
You can add layers little by little, but without dragging it too much: the idea is for the blush to look sweet, almost doll-like, as if it appeared on its own.
